Originally a fishing village, the small town of Hermanus is South Africa's premier viewing site of the southern right whale. From June to November they come within metres of the shore and you can easily see them from the high cliffs that drop into the deep waters of Walker Bay. Just an hour's drive from Cape Town, it is the perfect base from which to explore Cape Agulhas, or use it as an extension to the Garden Route which covers Cape Town and other safari areas in the famous south african game reserves so why not finish this extraordinary journey with an ocean safari viewing a whole host of ocean life including the right whale which shall be hailed through the town whale crier as shown in the bottom left picture above!
